Distributed Radio Resource management for Hyper Dense HetNet

Next generation wireless communications, i.e., 5G, will deploy dense small cell base stations (SBS). A dynamic channel assignment mechanisms, i.e., GUIA, was proposed and was combined with a BS ON-OFF switching algorithm in order to reduce the energy consumption and improve the spectral efficiency of a dense SBS deployment scenario. In GUIA/ON-OFF switching algorithm, BSs utilize information from their associated UEs to improve the performance of the network. At the next step, they select their channels based on a Gibbs-sampler. GUIA/ON-OFF switching algorithm improves the system throughput and achieves both high energy efficiency and spectral efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields significant performance gains up to about 40.3%, 44.8%, and 70.6% in terms of average energy consumption, UE’s rate and BS’s load, respectively, compared to a benchmark, i.e., interference-aware dynamic channel allocation algorithm.

Moreover, the impact of the number of BS operation modes on a joint UE association and resource management mechanism was also investigated. The mechanism is modeled as a Markov chain, in which increasing the number of modes increases the computational complexity. However, it results in improving the energy efficiency of the network and balancing load among BSs. For instance, the energy efficiency and average load per BS with 4 modes are improved, respectively, up to 27% and 11%, as compared to 2 modes, for a network with 10 SBSs.

Finally, The designed Android App for Wireless signal data collection was further improved and optimized.
