研究実績の概要 |
In the first year, we successfully developed two important technologies for realizing a high performance fiber-millimeter-wave (MMW) system for future mobile fronthauling, including: 1. A stable and low phase noise optical MMW signal generation technology using high-precision optical modulation technology. 2. A stable, low electrical phase noise self-homodyne detection for MMW signal down-conversion technology. Using the developed technologies, we can significantly improve the dynamic range and performance of fiber-MMW systems. The spurious-free dynamic range of our proposed system is improved about 10 dB. The performance of the fiber-MMW system employing the proposed high-quality optical MMW signal generation at the transmitter and a stable and high-performance MMW self-homodyne detection at the receiver is significantly improved for both downlink and uplink transmission compared to the system using conventional techniques. The proposed system is a potential solution for mobile-signal transmission in future networks. The results of this proposal were published in IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology, Vol. 34, No. 2, Jan. 2016. We also successfully developed a theoretical model for analysing the performance of a fiber-MMW system, taking different impairments and effects, and will be published in a future paper.

理由
The research is progressing smoothly as planned with successful development of two important technologies for a high-performance fiber-MMW system. We also successfully performed some demonstrations using the developed system for different signal transmission. The output of this research was successfully published in a high impact journal and presented at internal and international conferences.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We will continue the research of this project as planned this year. To further improve the system performance, we will develop a nonlinear distortion cancellation method using a predistortion technique. We will have both theoretical analysis and experimental demonstration to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, especially for large bandwidth signal transmission. Furthermore, we will have more demonstrations on different signal transmissions using the developed system, including mobile signals, wideband orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing signals, multiband signals, and multi-radio access technology signals.

In the last fiscal year, I had another source of budget to buy some devices and pay for travel expenses. So I wanted to move the planned budget for last fiscal year for this year so that I can buy some quite high cost items this fiscal year.

I will use the budget issued for this project to buy some optical and millimeter-wave devices and items for conducting the demonstrations. I also will use for some travel expenses for international and internal conferences/meeting.
