研究実績の概要 |
<Purpose> The two first years of research mainly focused on testing the reliability of the step-count assessment using the OchaHouse floor vibration sensing system. Accurate step-count predictions had been done. This year, the main work consisted in investigating the relationship between the floor vibrations and the intensity of the activity performed at home. <Material> A new floor vibration detection system, consisting in 15 accelerometers, has been installed in the OchaHouse. The optimal features of the system were determined by a series of preliminary setting experiments. <Method> Eight subjects performed one housework activity consisting in cleaning up the living room. The activity was performed twice. The first time, the subjects were not given any instruction on the pace. The second time they were asked to repeat the activity faster. The intensity was estimated by counting the number of cleaned items. The floor vibrations were recorded. Data were processed using an original algorithm and plotted as a function of the activity intensity. <Results and conclusions> The relationship between the floor vibration index and the activity intensity was accurately described by a first degree polynomial function (R2=0.6), giving good promises for the development of a housework intensity assessment home-system featuring energy expenditure predictions.

理由
1) The preliminary experiments showed the necessity to change the hardware. The previous installation was easy-to-use and provided with accurate estimations of step-count. However, it showed some limitations in regards to the next goal, which consists in predicting the expended energy during housework activities. Because these limitations could not have been anticipated, the installation of a new hardware induced some unexpected delays. In addition, a new series of setting experiments had to be conducted before the main experiment. 2) Time conflict with other academic duties. Despite this delay, crucial data have been collected giving precious indications to adapt the future experiments.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The future works will consist in longer experiments mimicking different housework activities performed routinely during daily life. The goal is to design an algorithm able to classify the different types of activities performed at home and to predict expended energy, using the floor vibration signal. Indirect calorimetry measurements will be performed to assess the energy expenditure. The performance of the floor vibration system will be compared to the one of commercial devices worn at waist or wrist.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The remaining amount will be used to cover the acquisition or rental of new equipment, for the remuneration of subjects and research assistants, as well as for publication and travel expenses if applicable/needed. Consumables and items of the daily living might also be purchased in order to conduct "real-life" experiments.
