基盤研究(A)
本研究では、現代のイスラーム主義に見られる「平和と暴力」に関して多角的な見地から調査・研究を実施するために、我が国のイスラーム研究者の中からイスラーム主義(イスラーム復興運動)、中東関係論、イスラーム神秘主義思想、イスラーム政治思想、イラン問題など、幅広くイスラームにかかわる領域を専門とする研究者を研究分担者として加えた。本研究計画は、現代のイスラーム主義(イスラーム復興運動)を、たんに宗教動向や国際政治、中東紛争などの枠組みで捉えるのではなく、「平和と暴力」いうきわめて緊急性のある課題に果敢に取り組み、現代イスラームの動向を多角的に調査・研究するものである。その研究成果は宗教学、政治と宗教、イスラーム神秘主義思想、パレスティナ問題、アジアの平和と共存、など多岐にわたり、それぞれが宗教における「平和と暴力」の課題に集約されたために、新しい学問的視野を形成するものとなった。イスラーム世界では過激な戦闘的集団による暴力の応酬と、そのなかにあって真摯に平和を訴える穏健な集団とが、政治的経済的な混迷のなかで抗争を続けている。そのどちらにも宗教的な理想と政治的な大義名分がみられるために、事態は一層複雑さを増している。本研究では、穏健な集団との対話を進めるとともに、過激な集団の思想的基盤と政治的背景を分析することによって、混迷の要因を探る試みをおこなった。また中東、アジア、アメリカ、ヨーロッパと拡大するイスラーム世界で得られた調査・研究を、グローバルな思想的動向や我が国の文化的伝統思想などとも対比して研究した。そういう意味でも、学術的にユニークで貴重な研究成果を世に問うことができたが、これらは具体的に我が国の外交政策や文明間対話の促進に寄与することができるものである。
