研究実績の概要 |
Researchers continued elaborating factors influencing licensing & TT (WP1); Modic published an article on the variety of factors and TT model (WP1) that can help evaluate successful licensing. Full set of data has been acquired, including additional start-ups data (the later presenting thus far a challenge forcing for web analysis to be performed to collect this additional data). Data has been interconnected and databases merged; completing WP2 and contributing to WP5. Models have been revised using regression analysis (OLS, panel, bivariate, in STATA) (WP3), where also research assistants have been included. Also preliminary social network analysis as an auxiliary method has been considered and first analysis performed. Validation via interviews continued (WP4) with a series of 24 interviews (WP4) including top U.S. (MIT, Stanford, Penn State, AUTM president etc.) & Japanese TT experts (e.g. KANSAI, TODAI, Osaka, Kobe, Hokkaaido, Kyoto). Also regional diversity was explored, focusing on institutional level factors; consult also article with Modic and Roncevic authors (WP6). Activity flow was completed and integrated in the monograph Towards IPR Management (WP6). OECD, ICMIT, AUTM and UNITT conference and East meets West workshop visited. The presentation on the later focused on the time dimension as a facet of successful licensing and the presentation at ICMIT focusing on model overview as well as the definitions of successful licensing (acting as dependent variables inside our regression models).

今後の研究の推進方策 |
General plan for the next FY included the following. Analysis will be finished and models validated; ending in their finalization (WP4) and connected to the methodology development (WP5). Also the work utilizing network analysis, especially ego-networks, will be done, as an alternative approach to discerning individual level factors (i.e. role of PIs and their network ties based on patenting and transfer activities). Identified analysis dilemmas (including, but not limited to, i. additional data conflict resolution, ii. deciding on the usability of the negative network ties approach and panel regression considerations; iii. Utilization on various quality indicators; primarily centred on the compilation of indicators by OECD STI), will be resolved and resulting in the analysis approach to be further honed. The bottlenecks will be identified and further elaborated on, especially also in connection to validating the effect of joined patents and the lack of longitudinal university start up data. This identification is the backbone for results’ dissemination (WP6) and policy suggestions (WP5). Researchers prepare further articles and papers to disseminate results (WP6) and also join in discussions at various events both at the home university and beyond. Additional discussions will be made with further TT and patent experts, inter alia connected to the joined patents. The latter will also ensure proper control of quality (WP7) of the performed analysis and gathered results, via subjecting to peer-review. To allow for coordination (WP7) researchers will continue to meet.
