研究実績の概要 |
Carried out Nickel Calibrations of EGADS Detector. This is used to determine the energy scale of the detector and tune the Monte Carlo simulation. Significant improvements were made to the EGADS Monte Carlo simulation. The effects of Ce impurities from the gadlonium sulfate were investigated and implemented them in the simulation. These impurities were changing the energy scale of the detector and were not previously accounted for.Updated electronics and optical models in the Geant4 simulation to reflect the upgrade from ATM to QBEE boards.Investigated neutron capture models, comparing the GEANT4 model to a newer model developed at J-PARC. It was found that the different models are difficult to distinguish in EGADS data due to its small size.Aided in the calibration of the EGADS detector. Particularly demonstrating that the Ce impurities had been removed after draining and re-filling the detector. Improved processing time and accuracy of the EGADS muon fitter. A Markov Chain Monte Carlo was compared to a gradient descent (MINUIT) method for determining muon track parameters. The Minuit method was much faster but requires more work to perform well in certain case. It was found that a functioning muon fitter was needed to search for spallation neutrons. This fitter will allow the localisation of muon-induced showers that produce the neutrons. Localisation reduces the otherwise large backgrounds to managable levels.
