1. After substantial revision and discussion, the paper entitled "Is a Big Entrant a Threat to Incumbents? The Role of Demand Substitutability in Competition among the Big and the Small" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Industrial Economics, a field top journal of industrial economics. This paper is scheduled to be published in the first issue in 2018. This work contributes to the research on the competition among large and small firms in two respects. First, this paper theoretically contributes to existing literature by considering richer substitutability among the products. Second, this work has strong implications on firms' behavior and the entry policy. Our model explains the distinct empirical evidences on the impacts of a large firm's entry on incumbent firms across different industries. Moreover, the welfare analysis provides a theoretical basis for the entry policy. 2. Oral presentation in the international conference: "Horizontal Merger of Big Firms with Product Choice in the Presence of Small Firms," Asia Pacific Industrial Organisation Conference (APIOC) 2017, 2017/12/14-16, University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. This work in progress examines how the endogenous market structure with big and small firms affects the post-merger product choice and consumer welfare. It has strong implications on antitrust policies. After deep discussion with the participants in the conference, I received valuable suggestions, which tremendously facilitate my progress on this research project.
