研究実績の概要 |
The second fiscal year of the research project “German Literature and American Film: Intercultural Media Relations 1912-2012” began with planning a public reading event by the poet Durs Gruenbein, one of the most prominent contemporary German poets, who has long been working on Los Angeles-Hollywood und the relations between text, film and photography, especially in terms of reminiscence and oblivion. In September 2017 the reading event took place with PI as an organizer and moderator at the discussion. In January 2018 (Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany) and in March 2018 (American Comparative Literature Annual Meeting at University of California Los Angeles, USA) PI held two lectures on the comparison between Alexander Kluge and Rolf Dieter Brinkmann in terms of their encounter with American film and development of their critical theories, and on the “Villa Aurora”, an artist’s residency in Los Angeles fostering German-American exchange in the fields of literature, music, art, and film as well as in political and social thought, with focus on novels of Manfred Fluegge (“Villa Aurora. Ein Traumspiel,” 2004), Michael Lentz (“Pazifik Exil,“ 2007), Klaus Modick (“Sunset,“ 2011), Kevin Vennemann (“Sunset Boulevard,“ 2012) and Volker Harry Altwasser (“Glueckliches Sterben,“ 2014), respectively. A two-week stay at the University of California Los Angeles allowed PI exchanging and networking intensively with Prof. David Kim (German Studies, UCLA) and Prof. Kevin Vennemann (German Studies, Scripps College), with both of whom PI plans further research cooperation.

理由
In addition to the public reading event with the German poet Durs Gruenbein in September 2016, PI held two lectures in January 2018 (FU Berlin, Germany) on the planned topic (Kluge and Brinkmann) and in March 2018 (UCLA, USA) on the topic about the youngest generation of German authors which was originally planned for the third fiscal year. The fortunate visit of Durs Gruenbein in Japan accelerated my research project to some degree. The two-week stay at UCLA with one lecture, too, catalyzed the analysis on the intercultural dynamics of intermedia relations and also a media-historical perspective on the transatlantic rapprochement.
