研究実績の概要 |
The main goals for the third year of the project were all completed. The main task was to conduct the year-long project with the group of 32 language teachers in Japan who signed up for the project at the end of the 2017 school year. During the spring semester, three main activities of the project took place: 1) teachers conducted a quantitative study in their own classrooms based on a procedures guide that I provide, 2) I gave online lectures to instruct teachers on the fundamentals of quantitative research methods, and 3) teachers used an online discussion forum to get guidance and support for their research and the topics of the lessons. During the fall semester, the lectures on quantitative methods continued through the end of January and the teachers began work on their data analysis and manuscript preparation. During February and March, teachers mostly worked individually on their own projects. I was in contact with them through email and answered questions as they came up. Three teachers have already completed manuscripts on their studies while others are still analyzing data or preparing manuscripts. Two presentations on the status of the project activities were given a national conferences and one manuscript was published.

理由
Most of the steps and goals of the project were completed on schedule. These were described in the previous section. Several teachers will likely not complete their manuscripts by the targeted deadline, but this is expected. I will be able to provide guidance to them during the 2019 school year. This does not affect the project schedule.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In this stage of the project, I will continue to provide guidance to teachers working on their projects through individual consultation and through the online project coordination site. I complete the collection of feedback and evaluations as the teachers finish their projects. I will compile the results of evaluations and collect qualitative data from the online discussion forum. Using this information, I will prepare final reports for publication and presentation at national and international conferences. Additional, I will seek to compile findings from the teachers studies into a larger meta-analysis of the research.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The unused budget is primarily due to the decision to hold off on purchases on new resource materials until the new school year and a delay for an international presentation until the new school year. The additional funds moved to the budget for Fiscal Year 2019 will cover these costs.
