研究実績の概要 |
This year my co-researcher and I submitted three papers to top-tier education, psychology, and language education journals. They are currently under final revisions, and we awaiting their final publication, expected by the end of summer. We have participated in five major international conferences, presenting papers, symposia, and posters for the top researchers in our field. Our work has demonstrated reciprocal relationships between foreign language teaching, self-efficacy, motivation, and achievement across the first two years of instruction. These results further indicate the importance of good quality teaching and support for competence. We have also demonstrated that students' motivation to learn English and Japanese overlap significantly, as does their achievement. These results are significant in that they indicate that motivation for learning a language is not a special case of motivation, but rather that teachers and parents can improve achievement by improving motivation to learn in schools. Our third (individual) papers are linked by a special issue discussing how specific theoretical advances can influence learning in schools. These papers are part of a larger special issue to be completed this summer. We are currently disseminating these results to participating schools.
