研究実績の概要

In 2017, we conducted the second part of our study across split levels of English classes. We replicated the results of our previous studies and extended them into all four language proficiency skill areas. We presented our initial findings in conferences organized by academic associations such as JALT, , KOTESOL, and University of Toronto.
We have also published our results and begun to design our culture-based language textbook. In addition to continuing our study, we launched a survey into popular cultural topics for textbook design and will use this data to organize our textbooks.
Finally, we have continued to make our research results available on Otemae's website and through our online repository. We also held our second symposium on teaching Japanese content in English language education in Japan.

理由

We were able to effectively complete the second year of our research as planned. We attribute this to the tight coordination of the team and the diligence of each researcher.
We are replicating our results and moving smoothly along to the next phase of our research and textbook design.

今後の研究の推進方策

We currently have two textbooks in production as a result of this kaken. The first is a four-skills textbook co-authored by the kaken team as a whole. The second is a more experimental reading book that uses a constructivist approach and is designed to promote autonomous learning.
In addition to authoring these two textbooks, we plan to publish several research papers and have further international presentations of our final results scheduled as well.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

Professor Jonathan Aliponga's 2017 research funds are saved to be used for 2018 international conference to present his research.
