研究実績の概要 |
(1) Single energy harvesters: We have considered several types of two degrees of freedom models of energy harvesters that are driven by flow-induced flutter, such as (i) a wing section and (ii) a simple flag model, represented by a double pendulum. Optimum parameters are determined. These results will be presented at the Dynamics and Design Conference 2019 (August) in Fukuoka. Following this presentation a paper (international publication) will be completed.
(2) A large group of energy harvesters: We have represented this system as a doubly infinite vortex array, similarly to the fish school model of Weihs (1973, 1975). We are now investigating the stability of this array. The results will be presented at the IUTAM 2019 Vortex Dynamics Symposium in California in June.

理由
We have asked for - and has been granted - a one year extension. However, the research is progressing very well at present. As to the problem of many interacting energy harvesters, to consider a simplified, fully analytical model (in terms of a doubly infinite array of point vortices) was really the right way to go. In gives an excellent overview of the solution to the difficult full fluid-structure interaction problem. In addition to this, the hydrodynamic problem of a doubly infinite point vortex array is a very interesting problem in itself.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the year ahead we wish to "connect all the loose ends". (Everything's in place.) (1) A paper (for international publication) dealing with the optimum design of a single energy harvester will be completed. (2) The stability analysis of the doubly infinite point vortex array will be completed. This will be followed by the writing-up of a paper (for international publication). (3) The results from (2) will be applied to set up optimum energy harvester placements in a fully computational model developed earlier (the first year of this project - and presented at the IUTAM Vortex Dynamics Symposium in France in 2017). (4) Experimental verifications will be done (by 4th year students), using the little wind tunnel now in place. This will also be followed by the writing-up of a paper.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Generally the work has been delayed due to technical (theoretical) difficulties. Hence I have applied for a one year extension. The difficulties have been overcome; hence I wish to transfer the budget originally allocated to the fiscal year 2018 to fiscal year 2019.
