In line with the results of the preliminary experiments, review study, recommendations of International Standard (ISO 2631-1) and discussion at scientific conferences, we conducted the main experiments with 30 apparently healthy elderly subjects, who were randomly exposed to whole-body vibration/WBV (vertical, side-alternating; three bouts of 1 min with 1 min interval between bouts) at 15, 20 and 25 Hz with corresponding A(8) values of 0.76, 1.12 and 1.41 m/s2 r.m.s., respectively, and to control condition (0 Hz). Skin blood flow (SBF), skin temperature (ST), vibrotactile perception threshold (VPT) of feet and heart rate variability (HRV) were measured and balance tests were performed before and during and/or after exposure. As the results of preliminary analysis of the collected data show, relative to the corresponding control condition, SBF and VPT increased significantly under all 3 WBV exposure conditions (P<0.05-0.001) with greater responses under higher frequencies of vibration which were comparable at 20 and 30 Hz. On the other hand, exposure to WBV did not produce any significant change in ST, HRV or balance tests. Therefore, WBV of relatively lower frequency within the recommended human exposure limit can be used effectively in inducing improvements in peripheral SBF among the elderly; however, improvements in balance may require exposure to WBV of different frequencies and/or magnitudes.

理由
The research grant was approved late by half year. Since then, we have procured necessary equipment relevant to different tests and arranged the experiment room. In the meantime, we performed a systematic review study on the intervention characteristics of various types of whole-body vibration and response patterns in various physiological parameters and selected the optimal parameters for vibration to be used in our study. Later, we conducted the preliminary experiments to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of those selected parameters among healthy subjects, according to purposes of our study. Next, after obtaining the approval of the study from the relevant institutional review board, we have been able to complete the main experiments as intended.

Now we are conducting the final analysis of the collected data. Also, we are preparing papers on the results of our experiments for presentation at relevant domestic and international scientific conferences. Considering the comments and suggestions to be received there, the presented papers will be modified and/or multiple manuscripts will be prepared and submitted to reputed peer-reviewed international journals for publications

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
To input the collected data and necessary arrangements for its final analysis, an assistant will be necessary. The research outcomes will be reported in relevant domestic and international scientific conferences. The trip costs for joining such conferences will be required. Multiple manuscripts will be submitted to reputed peer-reviewed international journals, and relevant costs for such publications will be needed.
