| 研究実績の概要 |
The first year of my research project was devoted to three main works:
1. Field trips to observe the city, meet with community leaders, and collect local newspapers, newsletters, and other leaflets. I made several visits to my research site, Shinchimachi, Fukushima. Walking around the town and visiting different places, such as schools, community centers, and areas ruined by tsunami was important to understand the community. I also arranged meetings with community leaders to introduce myself and get their advice on my research. Important community media, such as local newspapers, newsletters and other leaflets were collected.
2. Residents Interview. In collaboration with my doctoral student, we interviewed residents with regard to (1) connections to community media and organizations as well as to others neighbors, and (2) important issues or concerns they have about their community lives, and (3) their thoughts on stigmas imposed on Fukushima and Fukushima residents after the nuclear accident. A network sampling method was used to recruit residents of Shinchimachi to participate in the interview.
3. Literature review. I conducted literature review of relevant studies.

理由
When my research progress of FY2016 was compared to the plan proposed in my initial Kaken-hi proposal, it more or less matched. As indicated under 2), field trips, residents interviews, and interature review were carried on as planned.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The main research activity of this year is a survey research of residents in Shinchimachi, Fukushima. So far, a survey questionnaire was constructed in English and was translated to Japanese. The translated survey will be revised in consultation with community leaders in Shinchimachi to make it suitable to the context of Shinchimachi. It is quite challenging to arrange an administration of the survey. I have been talking to community leaders, city mayor, and residents in Shinchimachi trying to find the best way to conduct the survey. I plan to finish Shinchimachi survey by the end of this academic year.
