研究実績の概要 |
In the academic year of 2017, my main activity was to construct a survey, to arrange a resident survey in Shinchimachi, and to conduct the survey. 1. I first constructed a survey questionnaire to examine the relationship between residents' community relations on socio-psychological disaster recovery. I then conducted a pilot study and obtained comments on the survey from Shinchimachi residents. I revised the survey based on their comments. 2. In order to ensure that I reach a diverse group of residents in Shinchimachi, I employed a systematic residents sampling. I contacted 15 kucho (区長) and asked for their cooperation. The process turned out to be much more difficult than I expected. It took many visits to Shinchimachi and utilizing different networks. 3. As a result, I collected 500 samples as of March, 2018.

理由
My research progress in 2017 exactly matched what I have written in my initial research proposal. In my research proposal, I planned on three main activities: survey preparation, pilot study, and a resident survey. My target sample size was 300 but I exceeded it and collected 500 samples.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
For my final year of the current Kakenhi project, I plan to finish the data collection and start analyzing the data. I will use quantitative statistical methods to analyze my data to uncover the relationship between residents' community relations and their socio-psychological disaster recovery. In the later part of this year, I will write journal articles based on my analyses and submit them to conferences and journals.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
A large portion of the next year's budget will be used for administering a survey in Fukushima. In order to conduct a rigorous survey that employs a probability sampling method, a survey research company will be hired. The next year's budget will be used for hiring a survey company and ensuring a probability sampling. In addition, the budget will be used for traveling to Fukushima, as well as for traveling to the United States to present a paper at an academic conference. Other miscellaneous costs will include buying books, making copies, postage fees, and others.
