研究実績の概要 |
The purpose of this research is to investigate the need for and availability of mental health support for these young people, particularly those outside the relatively well-resourced Tokyo/Yokohama area, and to understand this within the context of effective local, domestic and international school and community-based mental health support programs and provision. The research will be take place in a local international school and its wider community. and seeks answers to the questions within the following three areas: Needs in the school and the community, support in the school and the community and research on culturally competent support.
This project provides an opportunity to do in-depth research in one international school and its local community over time, through first investigating student needs for support and then documenting the impact of the workshops and interventions the school implements as a result of the student needs questionnaire.

理由
I am satisfied with the progress made during the first year of this project. The following were completed between April 2016 and March 2017:
Permission was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee at Aichi Prefectural University to carry out the first stage of the research. In November 2016, a letter explaining all aspects of the research was sent to parents of Middle and High School students at the participating school and informed consent forms were attached and collected. On January 18, 2017, students with informed consent from parents and themselves answered a questionnaire about the types of things which concern them the most. Data from the questionnaires was analzysed in February and March 2016.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The following will be carried out between April 2017 and March 2018:
1. 'Creating Connections 2017: Social and Emotional Support for Multicultural/International Children in Japan' will be held on April 22, 2017. 2. Informed consent will be obtained from between eight and ten parents at the participating school, and interviews with these parents will be scheduled and held. Data will be subsequently analyzed. 3. The project website will be developed to include a newsletter related to social, emotional and mental health support information and resources, and will include interviews with some of the speakers from the April conference. The newsletter will be published every two months and will be available in English and Japanese and perhaps other languages. 4. A monthly multilingual discussion group composed of teachers, parents, mental health professionals and other members of the community will be formed in May 2017.
