In its first year, the research project was conducted properly according to the research plan, which is structured along the theoretical framework of the project, i.e., the descriptive categories of experimental writing, translation and praxeology. Over several months, I have succeeded in detailing out a unique and compact approach to the poetological debates on avant-garde strategies, experimental poetry, and the cultural and political impact of the ‘post-monolingual condition’ (Yasemin Yildiz 2012) in most recent German speaking-poetry (e.g., Uljana Wolf, Ann Cotton, Ulrike Draesner, Steffen Pop, Monika Rink and Ulf Stolterfoht). This very much facilitated the close (re-)reading of the individually and collectively (e.g., the blog- and book-project Helm aus Phlox: Zur Theorie des schlechtesten Werkzeugs [2008 & 2012]) written works of poetry that substantiate the research project. The purpose of this is to create a schematic representation highlighting the interactional dynamics and the particulars of different ways of contemporary poetical writing.

理由
I presented the first findings of my research in the context of national and international conferences, e.g., the Congress of the International Comparative Literature Association at the University of Vienna (August 2016), the autumn Conference of the Association for German Studies in Japan (JGG) at Kansai University (October 2016), and the international conference “Sound / Writing: On Homophonic Translation”, which took place at the Ecole Normale Superieure and the Maison Heinrich Heine in Paris (November 2016). I was also a member of the advisory board of that conference. This has allowed me to connect with other researchers across Universities in Japan, Europe and the United States working in the same field of interest. Thus, I greatly expanded my research network. I also published an essay on the multilingual poetry of the Austrian-American poet Ann Cotten that is included in the first scholarly book on transcultural poetry. I am currently revising an article that explores the intertwined literary conditions of surface translation and conceptual art in the context of the works of recent German-speaking poets, which will be published in an edited volume on homophonic translation in 2017.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Again, as in the first year, I will ensure conducting the study adhere closely to the research plan. With careful scheduling, I have already started preparing for my research trip to Germany from August to September, where I will meet various authors, poets, publishers, literary editors, curators and poets that are part of my research corpus. I also will attend readings in various locations in Berlin and conduct extensive library research. This will also feed into my plans of holding a conference or a symposium on Contemporary German-speaking poetry in Osaka in 2018, inviting poets, publishers and German researchers to Japan. After returning to Osaka, I will thoroughly evaluate the collected materials and contact the Goethe-Institutes in Japan and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for possible public readings and open lectures on German poetry (September 2017-November 2017). This also includes bringing together domestic researchers of German poetry with the purpose of discussing the ways in which recent German-language poetry can be adapted for second language learning classrooms in Japan. The other main purpose of the second year of the research project will be, on the one hand, to write a longer essay on intermedial translation drawing on extensive research on the intersections of translation and multilingual poetry; and, on the other hand, to outline a paper on the mutual affinity between poetical and philosophical terminologies in recent German-speaking poetry (December 2017-March 2018).
