Also in its third year, the research project was conducted according to the research plan. During this period the project focused again on balancing an intensive writing process (June 2018-July 2018; November 2018-March 2019) with a longer research stay in Germany from August to September. In May 2018, I presented the results of my research on surface translation in contemporary German poetry at a symposium with Rebecca Walkowitz at Ritsumeikan University. The event was hosted by the cross-lingual network and showed the need for critically investigating the relationship between authorship and translation both, domestically and internationally, especially in the context of the emerging field of world literature studies. During my research stay in Germany, I met with German poets and conducted extensive library and archival research. The interviews showed that there is a continuity to use translation, both as model and metaphor, to critically redefine the possibilities and limitations of the lyric genre in German poetry. The concept of the author-translator that I developed in my monograph (2017) has already been well received in translation and authorship theory, and lead to an invited contribution to the prestigious De Gruyter series Grundthemen der Literaturwissenschaft. uthorship and translation both, domestically and internationally, especially in the context of the emerging field of world literature studies.
