In 2018 AY, my research was focused on the dissemination of my research findings and writing of my papers for journal publication. Two main papers were completed and presented at academic conferences. The first paper argues that the decision to approve genetically modified crops is influenced by heuristics such as prior approval of trade partners, performance shortfalls, and prior decision on field trials during the pre-commercialization stage. Nonetheless, the effect of these heuristics weakens when the government operates in an institutional environment with a decentralized government and strong civil liberties and political rights. This paper was presented at the ANZIBA 2019 Conference. The second paper is about the diffusion of a social innovation, sustainable beekeeping using native stingless bees. It investigates how a social innovation is diffused in a nascent market with no industry value chain and customer base. The paper reveals the role of coopetition, i.e., competitive cooperation, at the pre-commercialization phase. This paper was presented at the 30th IABS Annual Conference. In addition, I have two papers that are now under the 2nd round of review. One highlights the country of origin heuristic and the difference in institutional environments across countries while the other focuses on the use of prototypes as heuristics that are based on reference points (e.g., partners and rivals) and previous interactions with other organizations.
