研究実績の概要 |
Theoretical investigations for estimation of time-varying magnetometer errors are now concluded. A survey for calibration algorithms for small satellite magnetometers is performed. Recent studies available in the literature are investigated. As a part of these theoretical studies new magnetometer calibration algorithms also are proposed. The papers that we present the results of these theoretical studies are accepted for presentation at upcoming international conferences. We are currently preparing journal manuscripts. Now the next step is to conduct experiments for verifying the proposed model for time-variation of magnetometer errors for small satellites. Feasibility study for the experiment setup is finished and a part of the necessary equipments including the magnetometers is bought.

理由
Theoretical studies for the research are concluded. However the initially predicted schedule for the experiments is slightly delayed. The main reason is the difficulty that we had for purchasing the selected equipments, which are best fit to conduct the experiments. Finally at the end of 2016 Financial Year, we could purchase the selected equipment and begin the preparations for the experiment setup. We would like to perform the experiments with the ideal equipments (specifically magnetometers) and setup to increase the quality of the results. This is why preparations for the experiments are taking longer than we expected.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Once the preparations are finished (planned for late May 2017) we will start performing the experiments. As the schedule for the experiments is slightly delayed, we consider finishing the experiments as soon as possible. We expect to obtain the initial results until September 2017. The initial results will give us chance to validate the theoretical studies and evaluate the performance of the proposed magnetometer calibration algorithms. After that depending on the status, additional experiments may be conducted.
In 2018, the results will be examined and published. As the generalizability of the obtained results is important we consider testing the proposed algorithms with also actual in-flight data from a small satellite mission. This will be the final step in this research.

There are two reasons for incurring amount to be used in next fiscal year: 1) The purchase of the experiment equipments is slightly delayed. So we could not buy all of the equipments in last financial year. 2) The conferences in this year are more appropriate to the research theme. Thus we preferred to attend international conferences in this financial year rather than last year.

The incurring amount will be used 1) to buy the rest of the equipments for the experiments; 2) to attend international scientific conferences. The papers that we submitted for presentation at the international conferences are already accepted. At the moment trip schedule is arranged.
