研究実績の概要

During the last fiscal year three studies were published, one study that is related to a different scope (H. Sakuta, et al. Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 9, 5792-5796, 2018) and another study that is only partially related dealing with the biomechanics and dynamics of neuronal cells (H. Umeshima, et al. Neuroscience Research, 2018).
A further major study was published, that deals with the lipid dynamics on the plasma membrane on cells. Using a novel method of three-dimensional analysis of the entire cell membrane of Dictyostelium cells, we found that PtdInsP3 domains can propagate persistently in any direction on the entire plasma membrane, while their propagation direction and speed are governed by the geometry of the cell. This study opens more general questions about how the system geometry and spatiotemporal signaling interact to control pattern dynamics. A preprint was published first (M. Hoerning and T. Shibata, BioRxiv, 278853, 2018) and the final manuscript was accepted for publication recently (M. Hoerning and T. Shibata Biophysical Journal, 116(2), 372-382, 2019). This study serves a basic analysis platform to study the biomechanics and dynamics of cardiac cells cultured on rigidity-tuneable hydrogels.
