研究実績の概要 |
1) In collaboration with Mr. Fukazawa (a student), I systematically trained 10 students under strictly controlled conditions, using the PILOD method only. 2) Several more students were trained in collaboration with Capt. Uemura, using a combination of PILOD and subjective evaluation and feedback. 3) A variety of subjects took part in the experiments, and there were clearly different learning styles. I increased the variety of training exercises to better match the various personal needs. 4) I improved the analysis software * Developed several rubrics and automated evaluation for formative assessment * Added automatic report generation * Added several checks to confirm data quality before analysis * Improved robustness of analysis * Improved user-friendliness 5) Offer from an industrial partner to collaborate and run some experiments to test PILOD in a real-world setting. 6) Positive feedback from students taking the training. Some mentioned that it increased their understanding of e.g. pilot operations, aircraft dynamics, cognitive psychology, benefiting their own studies and research.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
No major changes in the planning are required, however gathering reference data from advanced and veteran pilots deserves continued attention in 2018. For the second experiment, I plan work together with an airline or pilot training school to provide them with training according to the proposed PILOD method, while gathering experiment data for validation. Since this would be an external collaboration, getting ethics committee approval, recruiting subjects, organizing the experiments is likely to take considerable effort and timing will have to be adjusted to the actual pilot training schedules. By this time, I will also have to make sure the measurement equipment is sufficiently portable, robust, and easy to use by others, so that we can efficiently carry out a large number of experiments. Depending on the location and the specific simulator used in these experiments, hard- and software changes may be needed to make sure all necessary data can be recorded, and the recorded data can be synchronized. I will recruit an assistant who has sufficient experience carrying out the experiments to help me if a large number of trainee pilots will take part in the experiments. This assistant will probably be a student, who should be trained during the experiments in 2017 with our own simulator at The University of Tokyo. Ideally, I also like to involve actual instructors/evaluators with the experiments. After a review of the objective data, they could formulate their advice to the trainees. Their opinions about the PILOD method would also be much appreciated to improve its practicality.
