研究概要

ヒトとヒトに最も近縁なチンパンジーの間の塩基配列での違いは1%余りに過ぎず、ヒトへの進化をもたらした遺伝的背景の謎は深まるばかりである。本研究では上述の1%という値を求めたゲノム中の単一コピー配列ではなく、反復配列に着目して解析をおこなった。その結果、(1)脊髄小脳変性症の原因となっているリピート構造はヒトへの進化の過程で獲得された、(2)種特異的に存在する単純アミノ酸リピートは表現型に影響を及ぼす、(3)安定な立体構造をとる単純アミノ酸リピートをもつ遺伝子の進化速度は速い、等を明らかにした。
