研究概要

魚類の性決定機構の解明を組織学的、免疫組織学的、細胞学的及び分子生物学的手法を用いて行った。その結果、雌雄異体魚の成熟卵巣を精巣へと転換させることに成功した。性決定に雌性ホルモンと雄性ホルモンのバランスの変化が重要な役割を果たしていることが明らかにした。更に、性決定には脳からの刺激である生殖腺刺激ホルモン及び生殖腺内ではそのシグナルを受け取る生殖腺刺激ホルモン受容体が重要であることを明らかにした。
