研究実績の概要 |
This work is related with 3D seismic ground response analysis in Kathmandu valley during the Mw7.8 2015 Nepal Earthquake using Spectral Element Method. In this year, I was primarily involved in data collection, database building, research meetings, and ground modeling. So far, almost 40% of the research work has been completed and in next one year, I plan to complete the remaining work as well as do some additional work towards checking the reliability of the method developed in other similar areas. The following are some of the main research activities and achievements. - Data collection and research discussions in Kathmandu in Sep-Oct 2017 - Ground damage survey in Kumamoto area in Jun and Sep 2017 - Presentations on an int'l conference and on a local conference - Five manuscript preparation

理由
As stated above in the summary of research achievements, I have completed nearly 40% of the research plan. In fact, I was planning to accomplish more than 50% in the first year of my research period, unexpected difficulties in borehole data collection has largely affected my work in the first half of this year. Moreover, the database preparation and precise ground model building have required a large part of my time, and finally I have come to complete the 90% of the 3D ground model building by the end of April 2018. As soon as the ground model is complete, I will run the SEM program to do the 3D ground response analysis using the available data of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. So, in this sense, I think I have not been able to move as expected but from now onward, the work will speed up.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
As stated above, the work is slightly behind the schedule, but this can be well compensated by completing the ground model in next one month. As soon as the model is complete, different trials of ground response analyses will need another 2-3 months, and by the end of first half of the second year of my research period, I will be done with most of my planned work. However, the verification of the method developed will have to be checked for its reliability, so I plan to conduct the same analysis in a part of Japan where the reliability of secondary data is high. For example, I will use this method to do ground response analysis in Kumamoto area during the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes. Out of all this work, I plan to write at least 5 additional journal papers and publish them within 2018.
