| 研究実績の概要 |
The fellow achieved the overall objective of her research in a tangible and impactful manner. The major achievement was the publication of the scientific journal article published in Sustainability Science; a research conducted in collaboration with internal and external sustainability research networks at UNU-IAS. She has also engaged in collaborative research aimed to link SDG 4 (Quality Education), the focus of her current research, with other SDGs, namely SDG 12 Sustainable Consumption and Production and SDG 5 Gender Equality Policy. She participated in the RCE Asia-Pacific Regional Conference organised by UNU-IAS Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) team in Sydney, Australia where her presentation on lastest research findings was well received by participants from the Asia-Pacific region. Other presentations include; a presenation for young leaders on sustainability, at the International Seminar Series on Sustainability organized by UNU, and Ibaraki prefecture, a presentation at a Seminar for Doctorate and Master Sustainability Students at the UNU conducting an experiment to demonstrate that actioning Sustainable Development Goals depends on the context in which we operate.
As an invited lecturer at the Global Environmental Forum, Meiji Gakuin University, a lecture aimed to build capacity on future lawyers on existing sustainability regulatory frameworks and trends in higher education for sustainable development, was given.
She also presented latest research findings at the Japan-Australia Diplomacy Research Forum. Co-organised by JSPS.

理由
The fellow has exceeded the expectations she had for her own research project during the second fiscal year. After conducting data collection over the first fiscal year; she rapidly came up with the first scientific outcome. As mentioned, the first research article was published in ‘Sustainability Science’. Based on a qualitative research strategy, this research outcome titled Higher Education for Sustainable Development: Actioning the Global Goals in Policy, Curriculum and Practice’ suggests that ‘the advancement of Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HEfSD) in policy, curriculum and practice depends on a better understanding of existing gaps, target areas, commonalities and differences across regional HEfSD agendas. Findings presented in this piece will hopefully provide higher education institutions and their stakeholders across regions with some conceptual and practical tools to consider strategically how HEfSD can successfully be integrated into policy, curriculum and practice in alignment with SDGs and with the overall mandate of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development'. Her scientific research has been also supported by policy-relevant reports that link at least one of the areas concerning her investigation. These research outcomes have been carried out in collaboration with other research networks, both, internal and external, as her research topic explores global stakeholder networks for impact sustainability research and education. Her research was also disseminated through technical presentations, delivered nationally and internationally.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The fellow will keep building up on her background and current research to respond to the main objectives of her project. After exploring global trends on education for sustainable development, she is now exploring similar trends at the local level, particularly, the impact of global networks on education for sustainable development at the community level. She is currently working on a major research outcome examining such interlinkages. Preliminary research findings have found that although the value of community capacity building for sustainable development is widely accepted within scholarly literature, these initiatives thus far appear to have achieved very little impact in the achievement of community development aspirations. This current research outcome works to increase our knowledge regarding specific priority areas which when targeted will result in more effective pathways towards sustainable development.
Other outcomes concerning impact sustainability research, a major component of her project will be also published in due time and technical presentations will be delivered to disseminate major research findings. She is also engaging in capacity-building initiatives herself to further development her research skillset.
