研究実績の概要 |
Ranjeeta joined UNU-IAS as a JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellow in September 2017. She is a member of the Governance for Sustainable Development (GSD) project at the UNU. The main objective of her research is to understand the policy process of implementation of SDGs, especially related to food security and sustainable agriculture in Asia, by analyzing the institutional arrangements and partnerships under this umbrella project. She is focusing on “Water-energy-food security nexus, Social Acceptance of ‘Climate-smart Agriculture’ Techniques for SCP”. This study focuses on the situation of water-energy-food security nexus and social acceptance of ‘Climate-smart Agriculture’ techniques in developing countries and their contribution towards sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in Agriculture. It looks into the interplay of political, community and market sectors for facilitating the adaptation of climate-smart agriculture techniques. It aims to understand how the climate smart agriculture techniques are being adapted to ensure food secure future. It also focuses on understanding the effect of regional development on the social acceptance of climate-smart agricultural techniques. This research will collect and analyse policy documents. Primary data is sourced from interviews with policymakers, input agents, extension service providers and surveys of agriculture households. Case study selected are horticulture belts of Maharashtra and Jharkhand, two states of India.

理由
Globally, the level of progress is quite interesting. Considering that the main target of Ranjeeta during Fiscal year 2018 is to develop effective approach for her research and running her model, she emphasized her activities on the establishment of the methodology including data collection, processing and analysis. She took a field visit in February 2019. The main purpose of this mission to Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra, New Delhi and Ranchi and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand was to identify the field site, interviews with stakeholders from state and local government, academia working on sustainable agricultural issue, and other stakeholders (i.e. input agents, extension service providers) Based on preliminary interaction with the country experts on Sustainable Development Goals and the country (VNRs) she had co-authored two Policy Briefs (submitted for review). She also made a presentation at Tokyo International Exchange centre in July, 2018. She also presented her paper in the 18th SCA Conference was held between 5 and 7 December 2018, at Science Council of Japan in Tokyo, Japan. She has also published a research paper on the Food Security Journal (forth coming).

今後の研究の推進方策 |
For this new fiscal year (April 2019 to october 2019), the main tasks will be primary data collection through household surveys and semi-structured interviews of stakeholders involved in policy planning and the targeted groups, primary and secondary data analysis and dissemination of the research outcomes. A household survey in the poor urban neighborhood in the Philippines and India in collaboration with the other researchers in the GSD project to evaluate the food security safety net for urban poor in the Asia-Pacific region will be conducted. Apart form the above mentioned survey, an another survey will also be conducted to analyze the social innovation for sustainable agriculture in two horticulture belts (one from a economically well-off state and another from economically weaker state) in India. Some meetings will also be arranged with local decision makers and researchers in India and other Asian countries to show the findings of the analysis. In order to enhance the visibility of the project and the study, attempts will be made to present the main results of the study in scientific conferences in Japan and abroad. Papers showing the main results will also be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
