研究実績の概要 |
Dr. Lin was very active throughout 2017. He presented his paper at the 22nd New Zealand Political Studies Association Conference in Otago University. He also conducted research at the New Zealand China Contemporary Research Center and Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. From January to February, he completed some in-house research about Japanese labor and some field studies mainly at the Rengo Kaikan in Tokyo. He focused on writing a number of publications with three journal articles and one book chapter already accepted by the editors and publishers. Also a book monograph manuscript “Labor Movements in Post-socialist China” was under ongoing negotiation with Palgrave Macmillan. He has successfully established research networks and teaching engagement: He became the member of the IIR of TUFS, Nov 2017, attended research seminar “Re-examining elections and violence: Clash of institutions in emerging democracies of West Africa, Ghana in perspective” in March 2018, and connected with the “Fair Labor Research Center” through professor Hirohiko Takasu at Hitotsubashi University. He also became the member of International Political Science Association, March 2018 and joined the research network of EURAXESS Japan, Nov 2017. He worked as a referee for the Journal of Contemporary Asia in Feb 2018 and for the China Journal in March 2018. He was interviewed and accepted to be the lecturers’ pool of GLIP English classes at TUFS, Feb 2018, and was invited to be the guest lecturer for Dr Yamanouchi’s course “Oceania Studies: an Introduction” in Feb 2018.

理由
Dr. Lin and I feel that we have achieved sufficient, probably a bit more than, what we have planned in our original proposal. Dr. Lin has met the challenges very well as a new researcher in Japan, and has been highly productive in terms of publication. As a junior scholar, he has been recognized by the scholarly communities as evidenced by the fact that he has been offered the referee roles for the top journals in his field since he moved to Japan.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
For the fiscal year 2018, papers accepted in the previous fiscal year are expected to be published. These are “Precarity Cognitive Resistance and the Emerging Conservative Working Class in China” was accepted to publish by the Journal of Contemporary Asia. “Cognitive Resistance: from labor activism to social movements” Modern China. “Democracy or Development? Workers’ Welfare in India and China”, co-authored with Kerswell, is under peer-reviewed by Asian Perspective. Book chapter “Small State, Smart Influence: China’s Belt and Road extended to New Zealand” Palgrave Macmillan. Some necessary adjustments proposed include: Dr. Lin would like to cancel the field visit to South China and instead he wishes to focus on the book manuscript writing because the latter is expected to take much more time and resources than we originally planned. I would also like to respect his hope to contribute more to research and teaching in TUFS and pursue pathway programs to University Positions in Japan. He also plans to: Attend “Marx200” conference in Berlin in May. Deliver the guest lectures at TUFS for spring term. Continue to complete the book manuscript proposal by July. Attend and present at the 2018 IPSA World Congress in Brisbane Australia in July. Write the paper on China-Japan labor studies and present at the WSSF conference in Fukuoka in Sep. Work on the book manuscript, by incorporating the research findings in Japan into the book. Planning the research for the last fiscal year 2019.
