研究概要

大気中のCO_2、CH_4、N_2Oの濃度や同位体比およびO_2濃度を、地上基地や航空機、船舶、大気球を利用して広域にわたって測定し、全球におよぶ時間空間変動の実態を明らかにした。また、全球3次元大気輸送モデルを開発し、観測から得られた結果を解析して、変動の原因を究明すると同時に、近年における温室効果気体の循環を明らかにした。さらに、南極ドームふじ深層氷床コアを分析し、過去70万年にわたる温室効果気体の変動を復元し、その変動を解釈した。
