研究実績の概要 |
In line with the plan for FY2018, after careful piloting, this year I conducted a large 'lab-in-the-field' experiment and survey in eastern Uganda, with a sample of married couples. Each husband and wife took part in a detailed survey about livelihoods and then they jointly took part in an experiment. I compared performance in joint tasks to the performance of individuals and unrelated pairs of people. The behavioural element of the experiment concerns whether spouses choose according to Bayes theorem or whether the wife tends to defer to the husband. I also made a presentation of work from the project about guilt and life choices at the Western Eastern Association International conference. The associated paper is currently under review for publication as an IMF staff paper and has been presented in Washington at the IMF.

理由
After a delay last year, the project is broadly on track. I have the experiment done in Uganda which was the main goal for this year. I am analysing the results and drafting a research paper that I will send out to academic conferences in FY2019. I also promised to work on new theory and this work is continuing to make good progress.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the final year of the project, I plan to do follow-up experiments. I will continue to consult with colleagues at the University of East Anglia over the research plans and results. I plan to build on the experimental research conducted so far. I plan to organize another experiment in eastern Uganda after a pilot in Japan. This will also involve married couples. The experiment will extend the results from the previous experiment and examine their robustness by comparing cooperation and information sharing in various different contexts. I am also working on analysing results and presenting papers at research conferences and to seminars. Working papers will be issued and I continue to work on the new theory particularly focusing on issues of fairness.
