研究実績の概要 |
First, I wrote 4 scientific articles contributing to better understand the origins of human disgust. Second, I co-organized a Royal Society meeting in Buckinghamshire, UK with Dr. Rachel McMullan (The Open University): “Evolution of pathogen and parasite avoidance behaviors”, which led me to co-edit a special issue for Philosophical Transactions B. Third, I presented my work at The Royal Society meeting; The 35th International Ethological Conference, Estoril, Portugal; The 8th International Symposium on Primatology and Wildlife Science, Inuyama, Japan; The 33rd Annual Conference of the Japanese Primatological Society, Fukushima, Japan, and The Bio-Anthropology Seminar, Oxford University, UK. Fourth, I started pilot experimental work on pathogen avoidance in Asian elephants at Seoul Zoo and in India. Since February 2018, I am collecting data at Wamba, DR Congo, on mouthing behaviors and parasite infection in wild bonobos.

理由
I still have one year before the end of my PhD but have already published enough material to ensure (-I hope) a successful graduation. That said, I do not rely on this and plan on including only the most valuable and constructive work into my thesis. As such, 3 out of 5 of my chapters are already published, one is in preparation, and I am currently collecting data for the last one. Then, by co-organizing the Royal Society meeting mentioned above and co-editing the Philosophical Transactions B special issue, I have been able to get wider recognition in the field and plan on collaborative projects with other researchers. Lastly, I have additional data on parasite avoidance behaviors and parasite infection in Papionini and Hominini, as well as on feces avoidance in Asian elephants, collected over the past 3 years, which are at different stages of analyses and may constitute 4 additional scientific papers, including two reviews.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
I started collecting data for the project that constitute the last chapter of my PhD thesis on mouthing behaviors and parasite infection in wild bonobos. From July to September 2018, I plan to submit the 3rd chapter of my PhD thesis and analyze all data collected at Wamba to write and publish the last chapter. By November 2018, I am invited to submit a review on feces avoidance in animals for a special issue in Frontiers in Psychology co-edited by Dr. Yuki Yamada (Kyushu University). By mid-December 2018, I will submit my PhD thesis before going to Europe for 3 weeks to give talks (at The University of Strasbourg, Musee de l’Homme in Paris, The German Primate Center in Goettingen and The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig). From January to April 2019, I will conduct more laboratory work with fecal samples collected in Gabon and DR Congo during the 2 first years of my PhD, and complete the writing of additional papers.
