The progress of this project has gone well with our expectation. Direct observation of near-infrared (NIR) light-induced plasmonic hot hole transfer was successfully made at a heterointerface in CdS/CuS heterostructured nanocrystals (HNCs). This part was published in the top journal (Z. Lian et al., Nature Commun. 2018, 9, 2314). The CdS/Cu7S4 HNCs with the morphology of heterodimers were successfully synthesized. They formed a novel plasmonic p-n junction, which overcame the ultrafast electron relaxation through hot electron injection and achieved extraordinarily long-lived charge separation (> 273 μs). The CdS/Cu7S4 HNCs exhibited high photocatalytic activity in hydrogen evolution under near- or short-wave infrared light irradiation. This part was published in the top journal (Z. Lian et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2019, 141, 2446-2450). In addition, this article was selected as a Journal Cover Picture. Next, durian-shaped CdS/ZnSe heterostructured semiconductor nanocrystals (d-CdS/ZnSe NCs) were successfully synthesized and the mechanism of formation processes were well explored. The d-CdS/ZnSe NCs exhibited high activity for H2 evolution due to the ultra-long lived charge separation (> 6.2 ms) and efficient hole transfer to the mesoporous shell. This part was published in a specific journal (Z. Lian et al., J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2018, 9, 2212-2217).
