From FY2017 to FY2019 we did research and development regarding the integrated cybersecurity training framework named CyTrONE, and the related modules that are in charge of cyber range creation (CyRIS) and handle the integration with the Moodle learning management system (CyLMS). In addition, we also developed training content for CyTrONE that targets various categories of learners, from students to young professionals. Both the framework and content development were completed as planned.
In FY2019 we worked along three main directions:
1. The documentation was updated, and we held meetings with several parties interested in using the framework. Training content development continued, and we released publicly a new set of 20 training questions based on information security testing and assessment techniques. We also updated the CTF training content set released last year with 24 new questions, for a total of 38 questions in this category.
2. CyPROM scenario progression management module integration with CyTrONE was finalized, and new releases were created on GitHub. We conducted user testing internally, and also via the use of the framework in a training session for the intensive course I465S "Literacy in Information Security Management" provided by our university.
3. The CyTrONE project was introduced via demonstrations and presentations at Interop Tokyo 2019, CODE BLUE 2019, CACOE 2019 and USENIX Security '19. As a new research direction we plan to consider efforts towards the standardization of cybersecurity training representation based on the CyTrONE format.
