2019年度は、本課題の研究協力者らと、ポーランドのポズナンにあるAdam Mickiewicz Universityにて8月に開催された国際人類学民族科学連合（International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, IUAES）にてオープンパネル'Ethnographic Encounters on African Youth and Families:Norms,Education,Employment,and Marginalization'を研究協力者であるマケレレ大学教授Peter Atekyerezaに共同コンビーナーとなっていただき組織し、協力者であるIan Karusigariraはディスカッサントとなった。本課題代表者は、趣旨と個人発表‘The Maid-Elite Women Nexus: Strategies and Survival in Kenya and Uganda'を行った。発表では、社会問題となって久しい、就学中にシングルマザーになる何のキャリアもない女性が、子どものために生活の糧を得るための手立てとして出稼ぎにくる場合、自己実現を夢見る若い女性の生活の手立てとしての「ハウスガール」という職業、子どもを大学に行かせることに成功した「ハウスガール」の事例等をもとに、この職業の在り方が変化しているさまを発表した。Atelyereza氏の'Education and Gendered Marginalization of the Youth Employment in Rural Uganda'の発表により、アフリカの若者の教育、就職等の置かれた状況から「ハウスガール」や高学歴女性などの変化の位置づけも明らかになった。Chris Opesen氏は'Gender Construction, Marginalisation and Rites of Passage in African Families: Ethnographic Insights from the Pokot of East Africa'にて、そしてKarusigarira氏が'Youth the Victim? The Predicament of Social Change:Lived Experiences of Ugandan Youth’の発表をした。会場には日本、欧米からのアフリカニスト、が参加し質疑応答も活発に行われた。
