研究実績の概要 |
In 2017, we developed the interview schedule; pilot tested the data collection instrument; located the target population in both Singapore and Japan; developed recruitment materials and disseminated them through communication channels that provided access to the target population in each country. We submitted and received IRB permission. We held a project meeting in Japan to develop the interview schedule and the final data collection strategy. We made several connections with the target populations during the project meetings in Japan and in Singapore. As we planned, we elaborated our theoretical framework and we wrote a paper that is going to be presented at the 2018 meetings of the American Sociological Association.

We are on schedule and not ahead of schedule. We are progressing as we planed. We are presently conducting interviews.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In 2018 we are planning to complete interviews and start data analysis. We are also planning to write two papers. We will hold a project meeting in Singapore to discuss the progress of data collection efforts and to address any concerns or issues that exist at that point. During this period, we will also give a presentation about the two types of governmentality that comprise the theoretical framework of this project at a meeting of the LGBT international study group that we both belong to. This will provide an opportunity to receive meaningful feedback from scholars in the field.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The translation of transcripts from Japanese to English is very expensive and we didn't receive the amount of funding that we asked. The translations would have made us go over budget and would have made further progress of the project impossible. For this reason we made a decision not to translate the entire transcripts and do only parts that we deem necessary. This is the reason we did not spend the given amount of the funding in 2017. This year we will use the money for transcripts and translation.
