研究実績の概要 |
A framework model for wellness tourism development in rural areas is developed, combining the concepts of integrative diversification, tourism product development and an endogenous approach to innovation dynamics. Three spatial levels of wellness services are considered (establishment, destination and the region where they are located) in order to identify the required resources, services to develop, stakeholders to involve, and a process to match the supply and demand in wellness tourism. The article concludes with an exploratory application to the case of East Hokkaido (Japan), identifying crucial challenges for a diversification of wellness services based on the traditional onsen practices. The final version of the article proposed in the application form was submitted for publication. The title is "Integrative diversification of wellness tourism services in rural areas: An operational framework model applied to East Hokkaido (Japan)" by Joao Romao, Kazuo Machino, Peter Nijkamp. The structure, literature review and conceptual framework of this project were presented at the 54th Meeting of the Japanese Section of Regional Science Association International (Kyoto, Japan, October 2017). Preliminary results of the analysis were presented in the Conference “Sustainable Urban and Regional Development; Research and Policy Challenges for the Asia-Pacific Rim” (Beijing, China, December 2017). Final results of the analysis were presented at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Western Regional Science Association (Pasadena, USA, February 2018).
