FY 2021 saw the formal completion of the project and all its goals. Most significantly, the year saw the publication of the project monograph with Oxford University Press in August. Subsequently, the authors hosted and attended several live events designed to bring awareness to this new research. Several additional publications for academic journals and edited volumes were prepared, submitted, and reviewed. Additionally, with the primary project goals completed, we were able to pursue some secondary lines of inquiry and analysis related to the phenomenon of serial pilgrimage in Japan. In sum, all of our research goals stated in the grant application were met, and the additional time allotted due to the extenuating circumstances of the coronavirus allowed for extra publication output.
