研究実績の概要 |
Face-to-face CLIL courses were created for Japanese students in two areas: global issues, and British and American Culture. Co-taught classes included work on cross-cultural understanding with China and the US via video-linking. Asynchronous month-long interactions were also created with universities in the Netherlands, Mexico, and Brazil. Students were surveyed on these interactions. The Asynchronous units won the Collaborative Teaching Award 2017 at the Global Partners in Education conference. I presented this research with Mexican, Dutch, Polish, and Russian co-presenters. We then published our findings later in the year. I also presented my findings on campus to colleagues. Negotiations for future video links were conducted with Poland and the U.S.

理由
My students were able to video-link regularly with two institutions ( East Carolina University in the US, and Henan Polytechnic University in China). I was able to expand my cross-cultural CLIL courses to a much larger number of students ( 48 students rather than the maximum of 16 for video linking) by creating asynchronous global understanding courses online with Dutch, Mexican, and Brazilian colleagues. Students' ICT skills improved in addition to their understanding of other cultures, and increased chances to use English for authentic communication. I was also able to arrange a one-off CLIL workshop for students and teachers at my university by collaborating with a visiting American artist.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In 2018 I have video-linked with a Polish partner once so far, and the students have been discussing local myths. This year I intend to foster this connection and to continue my video links with East Carolina University's School of Theater and Dance. I am in discussions with various European universities about holding video links which would culminate in face-to-face work in Japan in 2019, in addition to my regular video-linking class on cross-cultural understanding which is taking place this semester with Taiwan and Peru. I also have 76 Japanese students undertaking asynchronous exchange with Dutch students and I intend to survey the Japanese students. I am also creating a course in Japanese culture and theatre for the American Theatre and Dance students whom I link with.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In 2017 I had no seminar students and so it was difficult to conduct video-linking classes since the classes take place early and late, and many students' English proficiency is rather low. However from 2018 I will be linking more regularly with my new group of seminar students. In 2019, I will invite two of my video-linking partners to Japan. They will work face-to-face with the students with whom they have linked and also lead teacher education workshops for local instructors. I will also attend the Global Partners in Education conference in 2019 which will be held in Columbia, South America.
