I'm completing the following two papers:
(1) The impacts of exchange rates on the machinery exports to the US (2) Was there a structural break in the impacts of exchange rates on the machinery exports of Japan to the US?
The first paper examined whether the exchange rate of an exporting country affects the export prices and quantities of its competing country in the US market? Specifically, the paper explored the exports of Canada, China, Germany and Japan to the US, and found that China’s exchange rates affect prices of all other countries. In addition, a competitive relation is found more clearly between China and Japan than other country pairs. The second paper adopted the methodology used in the first paper but focused on the Japanese exports and found that the impact of the yen exchange rates on the Japanese exports has decreased after the global financial crisis.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
To improve the methodology of the two papers above, I will attend the summer workshop of CEMFI in Aug. where Panel Data Econometrics is taught by Professor Bond of Oxford University. Then, the first paper will be completed and submitted to a targeted journal. I plan to complete the first draft of the second by the end of 2019.
