The present study directly replicated key elements of Telwatte et al.’s (2017) survey, with three additional changes. Specifically, we (a) collected data from a much larger sample of participants (n = 616); (b) applied stratified sampling method to employers across all industry sectors; and (c) adapted the question items to reflect the Japanese education and employment systems. Multilevel analyses provided evidence of replication in predictors of greater empathy, greater necessity, and lower perceived cost when predicting reasonableness and greater granting. Psychological disabilities of employees predicted less reasonableness and less granting. Between-person and within-person characteristics combined to influence perceptions of reasonableness and the willingness to grant an accommodation. Unlike Telwatte et al. (2017) however, employers’ age and knowledge of legislation were significant predictors of and the severity and the legitimacy of the disabilities were not significant predictors of reasonableness and greater granting in the present study. Thus, strictly speaking, the present study failed to replicate Telwatte et al.’s (2017) results. The results were considered concerning the employment systems and the attitudes toward individuals with disabilities.
