研究実績の概要 |
This project aims at the synthesis of unprecedented chiral carbon nanobelt molecule that could be the next generation nanocarbon material, and subsequently investigate their host guest chemistry with fullerenes, templated carbon nanotube growth and other material related applications. The first stage of the project is to synthesize the target molecule. So far, the synthesis is conducted smoothly and the key diborylated intermediate was obtained by a five-step transformation in good yield from commercially available compound. The key transformation, a platinum mediated macrocylization reaction, is currently being examined. To overcome the steric hindrance of the ortho-substituted substrate, we are now screening reaction conditions with different solvent, base and ligand. Also the reaction temperature and time will be optimized. At the same time, using an alternative synthetic approach, a new carbon nanobelt molecule has been successfully synthesized and the structure is unambiguously confirmed by NMR and MALDI-TOF MS. Next, we will proceed to finish the synthesis of the originally planned carbon nanobelt molecule, and explore the supramolecular chemistry and material applications of these interesting molecules.

理由
The plan for the first fiscal year is to complete the synthesis of the carbon nanobelt. So far, not only the original synthetic plan is going on well, we have also obtained a new carbon nanobelt with an alternative synthetic approach. Later, we should be able to obtain two different carbon nanobelt molecule systems. Therefore, the progress of this project proceeds more smoothly than we initially planned.

Next, we will firstly try to complete the synthesis of the original target molecule. Then, with two carbon nanobelt molecular system at hand, we will proceed to explore their host-guest chemistry with fullerenes, templated synthesis of carbon nanotube and other material related applications.
