The well-arrayed ZnO nanostructures and ZnO-TiO2 core-shell structures were successfully developed. The various defects in the nanostructures were well controlled and the mechanism was revealed. In the last year, the demonstrated photoluminescence type gas sensor was developed, which showed that high photoluminescence sensitivity within visible range for the reducing gases (hydrogen and ethanol gases). The varied visible emissions could be observed with change of gas concentration as well as different kinds of gases. The response and recovery time were test and performed well. The developed ZnO based nanostructures are easily processed with high producibility and stability. The developed technique of ZnO-based visible gas sensor has high potential applying for detecting reducing gases.
