研究実績の概要 |
For FY2017, the team conducted field work, collected data and presented initial research outcome at two conferences (one domestic and one international). The research team has also increased one member in addition to four existing remembers. Fieldwork: Initial investigation in three areas: Oita Kobe, Kumamoto (Kumamoto city and Kurokawa Onsen; two times and Miyagi (Kesennuma city two times). The team has reviewed relevant literature and reports of earthquake impacts on the tourism industry, develop interview framework and conducted interviewed with relevant stakeholders of the tourism industry. In Oita, the team interviewed tourism officers in Beppu and Yufuin, major tourist destinations in the province. In Kobe, one investigator surveyed the displays, narratives and did library research for secondary data collection. In Kumamoto: The groups of researchers conducted interviews twice with local tourism businesses in relation to the impact of ‘fukowari’ to the recovery of the destination. In Miyagi, the researchers participated in the story-telling program and interviewed relevant stakeholders twice in March and August. Three presentations of research outcome were delivered in Japan and overseas.

理由
The research progressed as expected. The research team has completed planned activities for research in the first years. Fieldwork has been carried out in Oita, Kobe, Kumamoto and Miyagi Prefecture as proposed in the research plan. Initial research outcome has also been achieve with a number of conference presentations. Researchers are able to established network with local authorities and communities in disaster affected areas for further investigation. Data collected from fieldwork has been transcribed and are ready for analysis in the coming years.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the second year, one new colaborator (Dr. Hiroaki Saito) will be added to strengthen the connection to Miyagy prefecture. The team will intensively analyze the data for consultation to Miyagi and Kumamto local stakeholders who provide the information for research and aim for journal/book chapter publication in the second year. The team will start international fieldwork for comparison in Christchurch New Zealand. Principal investigator: BUI Thanh Huong will attend one international workshop, two conferences, one domestic and one international to report research outcome. She will also conduct meeting for consultation and sharing research outcome to tourism officers of Kesennuma City in Miyagy. Co-investigator: Tsutsui Kumiko will continue to analyze disaster-related impact on destination image. Co-investigator: Uehara Yuko will start investigation of the role of social entrepreneur and social network among locals for recovery. Co-investigator: Mahichi Faezeh will further investigate on alternative energy source for sustainable energy saving solution after the disaster. A new colaborator Dr. Hiroaki Saito will join the team and carry out investigation from 2018. He will be an agent to connect APU team to Kesennuma city Tourism and Convention center and will help to gain access to local people in Miyagy using his existing network for research. The presence of Sr. Saito will strengthen the team’s research ability and extend network among researchers and local people.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The outstanding budget of 231,020 yen was due to cancellation of fieldtrip to Kesennuma by one of the research team member due to personal reason. The delayed trip will be conducted in FY 2018.
