| 研究実績の概要 |
First, I presented in French the results of my research to professors, researchers and students at the Univeristy of Lyon III, France. I gave an overview of the issues surrounding censorship in postwar Japan and how it affected the social status of the translator. I used the information I gathered the previous year through my fieldwork and interviews with important social actors in Japan. I also gave two presentations at international conferences. At the 2018 Asian conference on Media communication & film, I talked about translation/adaptation of European political concepts in Japanese popular culture (manga). This helped me integrate political concepts to my research and show the limits of translating those concepts in Japanese. At the Twenty-Fifth Annual Japan Studies Association Conference, I presented my most recent findings on the social status of the literary translator in Japan. I received constructive comments that will help me write my final paper on the topic in English.
I also published one article in Japanese on my research topic in a book on translation. I focused on Shibusawa Tatsuhiko, and I explained general theoritical issues related to the ethics of translation in Japan. 『翻訳とアダプテーションの倫理』

理由
I am mostly on schedule with my data collection, but I will need to conduct more interviews with translators this year. More importantly, I was able to communicate, as planned, the results of my research in English, French and Japanese. I was also able to exchange ideas with scholars in the field of translation working outside of Japan. I did fieldwork in France, Japan and the United States that helped me have a better historical background to understand the social status of the translator. Furthermore, I found lesser known cases of censorship of translations outside of Japan.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year, I will finish my research on the social status of the translator and I will start expanding the scope of my inquiry to translation of popular culture. Last year, I was not able to go to Australia, but I plan on going this year in order to talk with university researchers. I also intend to go to the UK in order to do archival research about the status of the translator in England. I will also do fieldwork in Japan and interview translators.
I intend to publish a final paper in a referee journal based on the conference I gave last year at the at the Twenty-Fifth Annual Japan Studies Association Conference.

I could not conduct research in Australia last year. I plan to use the amount this year to go to Australia.
