研究実績の概要 |
In the 2017 fiscal year, we first aimed to understand and evaluate an existing post-Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE) community program in Shichigahama that was based on positive psychology principles to inform our intervention study. Our primary objectives were to understand how this program helped those affected by the GEJE and to compare post-traumatic growth, subjective happiness, and health-related quality of life among those attending and not attending the program. Our study was approved by the Tohoku University Human Ethics Committee on 24 April 2017, and data collection was completed by July 2017. Data entry, cleaning, translation, coding, and analysis have been largely completed with two manuscripts currently in preparation for submission to international peer-reviewed journals.

理由
The main purpose of this research was to conduct a feasibility study, to apply a novel approach using positive psychology interventions, to promote psychological and general well-being among those affected by the GEJE. To inform our intervention study, we first aimed to understand another post-disaster community program that was based on positive psychology principles to evaluate its acceptability and impact on the disaster-affected population.
This initial evaluation study has now been completed, with anonymous survey received from 72 program attendees and 60 program non-attendees (response rate of 73.5% and 61.9%, respectively). It has offered us valuable insights in planning our intervention study as well as interesting findings to share with the international scientific community.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the 2018 fiscal year, we plan to publish two manuscripts from the initial evaluation study in international peer-reviewed journals. Based on our experiences and knowledge gained from the initial evaluation study, we aim to implement our intervention study after study approval by the Tohoku University Human Ethics Committee. It is anticipated that in the 2018 fiscal year, data collection and initial data analysis will be completed, and study findings will be presented in international conferences and published in international peer-reviewed journals in the 2019 fiscal year.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We initially intended to share the key findings from the evaluation study with the study participants through an easy-to-understand pamphlet in the 2017 fiscal year. However, this was delayed due to additional revisions of the pamphlet. Therefore, the funds carried over (47,736yen) will now be used in the 2018 fiscal year for the printing and dissemination of this pamphlet for the study participants.
