研究実績の概要 |
In the 2018 fiscal year, we conducted additional in-depth analyses of our evaluation study of a post-Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE) community program that was based on positive psychology principles. We also produced an easy-to-understand pamphlet and shared the key findings with the study participants.
After this evaluation study (focused on the senior population), we then proceeded to design and implement a pilot positive psychology intervention study to examine stress, optimism, and self-efficacy among university students who lived in GEJE-affected and unaffected area. Our study was approved by the Tohoku University Human Ethics Committee on 18 September 2018, and data collection was completed by December 2018.
Manuscripts for both studies are currently in preparation.

理由
In the first phase, we have completed an evaluation study of a post-disaster community program to evaluate its acceptability and impact on the disaster-affected senior population. In the second phase, we have completed a pilot 2-week positive psychology intervention study on a different age group, to examine both the long-term impact of GEJE on the stress level, optimism, and self-efficacy of university students and how the positive psychology intervention impacts these. Of the 66 students recruited, 44 enrolled and completed the study (participation rate=66.7%). With the findings and experienced gained from phase I and II, we are now planning a final positive psychology intervention study which will be carried out in the 2019 fiscal year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the 2019 fiscal year, we aim to implement a final positive psychology intervention study based on our experiences and knowledge gained from the first two studies. The final intervention study aims to provide recommendations for evidence-based simple positive psychology interventions which can be provided at the population level after a widespread crisis or disaster. During this year, we hope to receive study approval from the Tohoku University Human Ethics Committee and complete data collection and data analysis. In July 2019, we will also be presenting our findings from the initial evaluation study at the World Congress for Positive Psychology in Australia. Finally, we plan to publish manuscripts from the three studies in international and local scientific journals in this fiscal year.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We initially intended to hire a part-time research assistant and present our research findings in international conferences in the 2018 fiscal year. However, the hiring of an appropriately skilled part-time research assistant was delayed. Also, we wanted to present our research findings in the largest international positive psychology conference which only took place in 2019. Therefore, the funds carried over (735,666yen) will now be used in the 2019 fiscal year for hiring the part-time research assistant, and attending and presenting in international conferences.
