The first phase of field visit to Nepal was completed as planned. During the visit, district level line agencies and non-governmental organizations were consulted to determine the research site. Reconnaissance surveys, meetings with local governments, and preparation of sampling framework were done. The sample households were selected through cluster sampling. Roughly 350 households residing within the selected clusters were covered by the research.
Questionnaire for the household survey was prepared in Nepali language and pre-tested for necessary revision. Research assistants for household survey were recruited and one-day orientation training was conducted. Data collection (household survey), data cleaning, and data entry was completed. The process was thoroughly monitored by the researcher.
All the activities were conducted in coordination with the research collaborators in Hiroshima University (Dr. N P Joshi) and FORWARD Nepal. FORWARD Nepal provided the human resources, office space, training hall, rental vehicle, computers, printers, and other logistic-cum-management supports for all the research activities conducted in Nepal.
Data analysis is ongoing. A number of submissions has been made for publications and presentations. Please refer to the next sections for details.

理由
The targeted research activities for the first year has been achieved as planned in the original proposal.
The researcher is one of the contributing authors for the Chapter on 'Adaptation Strategies' for Comprehensive Assessment of Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) Region, coordinated by International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) under the Hindu Kush Himalayan Monitoring and Assessment Programme (HIMAP). The chapter is currently in the last phase of review.
Abstract has been accepted for another book chapter entitled 'Dynamics of food basket composition among marginalized communities: A special reference to Chepangs'. The full chapter is under review.
A research article entitled 'Food basket of a highly marginalized indigenous community in the mid-hills of Nepal: Transition and responsible factors' has been accepted for poster presentation at the 30th International Conference of Agricultural Economists to be held in Vancouver, Canada from July 28 to August 2, 2018. The researcher has also co-authored another poster entitled 'Factors affecting adoption of commercial vegetable farming among vegetable growers in Nepal: A probit analysis' accepted for the same conference.
The researcher has co-authored a journal article with the research collaborator, N.P. JOSHI; the journal article was published in 2017, entitled 'Rural household poverty dynamics in the Far‐Western Hills of Nepal: empirical evidence from panel data' in International Social Science Journal, 66(291-220): 205-220.

Data analysis, write-up, and dissemination are the major activities planned for this year. These are going on smoothly.
Publications and presentations in international conferences, as mentioned in the previous section, are the major upcoming research achievements.
Meanwhile further analysis, write-up, and submissions are in line.
Second phase of field trip and data collection is being planned for the next fiscal year.
