エルニーニョ気候変動がもたらす大気潮汐波動変化の解明

研究実績の概要

本年度はエルニーニョ気候変動に伴う対流圏と中間圏のオゾン変動を調べました。国立大気研究センターの大気・海洋結合モデルを用いて１２０年間の数値シミュレーションを行いました。これらのシミュレーション結果を解析し、オゾンの変化を調べました。結果により、エルニーニョにおいて、オゾン変化は主に成層圏下部で起こることがわかりました。また経度分布はシーソーpatternになっていることも確認されました。これらのモデル結果は、観測や先行研究と一致し、モデルはエルニーニョ現象中のオゾン変化とその物理過程をうまく捉えている可能性が高いことがわかりました。

また、実際のエルニーニョの再現能力を調べるために、再解析データをNCARーWACCMモデル入力し、１９９７－１９９８年のEl Nino、２００９－２０１０年のLa Nina, ２０１５－２０１６年のEl Ninoという３つのイベントについて数値シミュレーションを行いました。これらの解析は２０２０年度に行う予定です。

さらに、超高層大気の電離圏と熱圏に与える影響を調べるために、上記大気・海洋モデルシミュレーションで得た３次元オゾン変化はを、九州大学と情報通信研究機構と合同で開発したGAIA全大気モデルに入力し、数値実験をテストしました。GAIAはダイナミックなオゾン変化を取り入れていないため、様々な過程について、モデル調整は必要になります。これらの調整は、将来モデルを地球温暖化などについて数値実験できるために有意義である。

理由

アメリカ国立大気研究センターのスーパーコンピュータは更新を行ったため、３ヶ月ほどシミュレーションを遅れました。更新後も色々不具合があり、予定通りスムーズに行けなかったのは、主な理由である。

今後の研究の推進方策

今年度は、３つのイベントについて行った数値実験を解析し、オゾンと水蒸気の役割を明らかにする。秋に新型コロナ状況が収まれば、アメリカ国立大気研究センターに１か月滞在し、共同研究者と解析結果について議論する。また、１月に共同研究者は九州大学に滞在し、共同で論文をまとめる予定である。
