This academic year 2023, the following research activities and outcomes were achieved:
1. Further analysis of the CO2-H2O synergy on the degradation of various kinds of amino acids were performed, showing unique properties of the mixture around 250 oC. The application to removal of sugar moieties from flavonoid glycosides at relatively milder conditions below 150 oC, and glycerol conversion to fuel additives were also investigated. The CO2-H2O mixture showed unique synergistic effect on hydrolysis and etherification reactions, respectively. 2. Detailed investigation of the integration of this CO2-H2O synergy on carbon-based catalyst surface and a microwave susceptor showed the system to have promising effect on reactions even at a relatively milder bulk conditions of less than 150 oC.
European host professors also visited Kumamoto to give lectures to young researchers and students of Kumamoto University on biomass valorization and application of functionalized carbon-based catalysis.
