研究実績の概要

Two sites were chosen in Nagasaki Prefecture, Ojika-machi, Mushima Island as the study field sites in 2017 October. During October the necessary survey instruments and monitoring system was designed and constructed. Deployment of these instruments were done in November. Thereafter, monthly trips to the survey sites were conducted to measure water temperature, under-water light environment, water motion, and dissolved oxygen concentrations. The surface instruments were deployed to measure barometric pressure, surface light, and wind velocity. Instruments to collect samples of periphyton and dissolved nutrients were deployed monthly. Therefore, over the past 6 months we were able to determine the natural background conditions of the sites, before we begin the experiment in May 2018.

理由

We are slightly delayed due to a storm in 2018 March that destroyed some of our instruments. We are in the process of replacing these instruments. I estimate that we are delayed by two months.

今後の研究の推進方策

We plan to replace the instruments that were destroyed in a storm during 2018 March. In the mean time, we will continue to collect nutrient and periphyton samples, as well as to assess the species diversity of the seaweeds in the two study sites. We already have the nutrients ready for the nutrient addition experiment and will start these experiments by June 2018.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

We did not spend as much money as anticipated for personnel costs, since we only collected a limited amount of data due to the lost instruments. Left over money will be used to help replace the instruments lost during the storm.
